Measurement of the Hygroscopic Swelling Coefficient in Mold Compounds Using Moiré Interferometry

چکیده

An experimental method is proposed to characterize the hygroscopic swelling of mold compounds. The method utilizes moiré interferometry, which measures in-plane displacements over a relatively large gage length with submicron measurement sensitivity. Deformations caused by the absorption of moisture in mold compounds are analyzed to determine the coefficient of hygroscopic swelling (CHS). The large gage length nullifies the pointto-point variation within the sample, and the high sensitivity provides the measurement accuracy required for the small hygroscopic deformation. Representative results obtained from a commercially available mold compound are presented.

Prediction of time-dependent swelling of flexible polymer substrates using hygro-mechanical finite element simulations.

The prediction of hygroscopic swelling of flexible polymer substrates is crucial in various fields from smart structures to flexible electronics. In this study, the prediction method for time-dependent hygroscopic deformation is presented by employing the finite element method (FEM). In order to precisely consider the strain gradients inside the substrate, moisture distribution depending on tim...

Measurement and comparison of the temperature-dependence of refractive index of water and Plexiglas phantoms by interferometry method for their use in optical calorimetry

In radiation calorimetry by using laser beams and interferometry setups, variations induced by dose absorption in phantom can be precisely measured. Dose absorption and the induced temperature change result in refractive index variation of the material. In order to be able to measure the low amount of absorbed dose in the phantom, temperature dependence of refractive index of the material must ...

EVALUATION OF PRESSURE EFFECT ON HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT AT THE METAL- MOLD INTERFACE FOR CASTING OF A356 AL ALLOY

Abstract: During solidification and casting in metallic molds, the heat flow is controlled by the thermal resistance at the casting-mold interface. Thus heat transfer coefficient at the metal- mold interface has a predominant effect on the rate of heat transfer. In some processes such as low pressure and die-casting, the effect of pressure on molten metal will affect the rate of heat transfer a...
